I was gonna lie to you.. but I have to tell the Truth... Part 2
The Sequel..
God.. The second one is never as good as the first. Smh... Y'all are still going to read it though.
There is a difference between honesty when needed or requested and honesty that is unwanted or uncalled for.
".. too often people use "Well I'm just being real or keeping it one hundred" as a pass to be blunt or untactful." - Comment from Reader of Part 1
I agree with this comment 100%. I don't like when people use cliché phrases such as those to make tasteless or crude statements about ideas, things, or people. Not cool. A filter is necessary in most situations. And we've all seen the Dave Chappelle skits, "When keeping it Real goes Wrong". You have to think about what you say or do before you make that action. Because it could be turn into an ugly situation for you. Make sure people want your honest opinions or information before you volunteer it. And think about all the possible negative outcomes- if you choose to live your life with no filter.
Being honest is a skill that one must re-learn. I believe that honesty is something innate in all human beings but becomes corrupted early in life because of the fear of consequences. We are taught directly and indirectly that lying is okay.. sometimes. For example: when you were a kid and your parents/guardians took you out to a restaurant where kids under 10 eat free. You know that your birthday was two months ago and you just turned 11, but you better keep your mouth closed or you'll be in trouble with your family. Everyone has had some type of experience where you were taught to lie for the "greater good."
"Keep the Lie Alive"
And what about the situations where the public was told lies and it didn't change anything? Here's a few.. and few so's.. Because nothing changed.
Bill Clinton lied about getting head in the White House.. So..?
Still one of the most liked Presidents ever and he was big in getting Obama elected.
Rick Ross said he wasn't a jail cop.. So..?
Still one of the top and hottest artist in the rap game and he's still selling bricks. (I'm being sarcastic here if you didn't realize it)
Santa Claus brings presents.. So..?
Still got that bike, doll, shoes, or video game system you wanted and you're probably selling that same dream to your children
Damn.. I guess just like love and hate, there's 'A Thin Line Between Truth and Dishonesty'...
Is it okay to lie? Are some lies acceptable? Can we omit some truths?
Do you know how many times I've lied on job interviews? LOL. But it's for the greater good.. right? I guess. I have to pay the bills. I have to support my survival and that of my family.
I don't know. It's all very confusing. All I know is that we should all try and be the most positive and best versions of ourselves at all times. Keep it real with yourself and the universe will allow everything else to fall in place.
