I was gonna lie to you.. but I had to tell the Truth... Part 1
I'm just being HONEST...
As I begin to write this.. two things come to mind..
1. Future's song.. Honest (which I'm about to play now actually and got the name for this blog entry)
2. A timeless and famous quote from the film 'A Few Good Men'...
Jessup: I'll answer the question. You want answers?
Kaffee: I think I'm entitled!
Jessup: You want answers?!?
Kaffee: I want the truth!
Jessup: You can't handle the truth!!!
Let me define Honest:
1. authentic; genuine
2. the ability to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth
3. honorable in principles, intentions, and actions*

So I'm about to start drinking.. heavily... Crown Royal on Ice (ShoutOut to Jilly from Philly). The reason I've decided to become inebriated while writing this entry is because I believe strongly in the phrase- "A drunk mans words, are a sober mans thoughts." So pardon any inconsistency, randomness, or lack of explanation on my part. Blame it on the alcohol.
This is just my take on the whole "Honesty is the best policy" argument.
I've always prided myself on being a pretty honest person. I tell the truth about 84.97% of the time. Yeah I think that average is correct, don't ask me how I came up with it, but trust me- it's a good representation.
In every aspect of life honesty is one of the top moral principles that we say we respect and want. But do we really want ALL of the truth? And how much does ALL of the truth really affect a situation? And better yet can we really handle ALL of the truth?
Many ways to lie-
You can lie by mistake, exaggeration, omission, distortion, denial, fabrication, reduction, silence, and probably many other ways that I'm missing.
I'm not gonna directly admit my character flaw- which one I'm guilty of the most when it comes to lying. Some people in the universe may try to use it against me. Fuck that lol.
But I don't believe that anyone really wants 100% of the truth from any person that they care about
and
I don't believe that anyone is really capable of disclosing 100% of the truth to people they care about
We all try to 'save face'. We tell lies, large and small, to spare their feelings and to keep ourselves upstanding in their eyes. We do this to protect their feelings and to protect our own egos.
Just think about these minor situations in everyday life that we tell 'white lies'..
I'm right around the corner.. be there in five minutes.
Yeah I'm interested in seeing more pictures of your kids..
The food you made for the potluck was amazing..
No you don't look fat..
And why do we call little lies 'white lies'?
My definition of a white lie: Clean lie, a harmless lie- something said that is pretty much harmless to protect other people feelings.
or
something white people created to make themselves look and feel better for... Hold up... I'll save that for another entry.. Race in America.
I was always taught that a lie is a lie, there's no big lie and there's no small lie. I don't agree with that. I believe it's levels to this shit. Levels to honesty. You can't tell me that telling someone that that you're 26 when you're really 33 is on the same level as telling a person that you are heterosexual but behind close doors are on the down low.
It's just different.. It's levels..

But back to the truth..
You can't handle all of the truth.. Face it.. Think about it.. Be completely honest with yourself. If you got 100% honesty from everyone in your life and gave them the same- your life would be insane. You'd want to be locked up in an asylum.
There's a lot more to write.. So Part 2 will come soon enough. Please send or leave any feedback, thoughts, or comments and I'll try to address it in the next post about Honesty.
Come on man, where is the rest. I'm all ready to live the experience and you send me a cliffhanger! -Mel Scott
