Her Story: Date Night Turns Into Forever

Image
Something wasn't right.....all Friday night...this guy's tossing and turning in the bed all night. Now he's up...it's 6 in the morning...on Saturday! We bought a new bed, which I picked out and I'm feeling bad like maybe it's not comfortable to him?...he's up, so I'm up. I physically roll out the bed at like 7:15. Hit my gym buddy and tell her to get ready and meet me at the Y at 8. I had to go early because Keith changed our scheduled date night to Saturday early afternoon. Didn't think anything of it because we may often change the day if one of us has something going on.  Whatever....so I get home from the gym...hop in the shower to get dressed. Keith's not home because he took Kam to karate...I got plenty of time! I'm taking my time getting dressed when Keith comes back home...and flops on the bed..."why do you look dressed up?" I said to Keith...he immediately responded back "what you mean? Cuz I have on a button up an...

His Story: You're A Work of Art Baby

Image
So by now... I’m sure that you heard... She said Yes! Well she took the ring, so I’m assuming that means yes. Lol. I’m just going to pick up right where I left off… So after my run, I showered and got dressed. I put on a button up shirt, some khakis, and some oxfords made in Italy (Shameless, yeah I know). Jaime was still at the gym and I had to take my son to karate. I told her on Thursday that she needed to be ready by 11 AM for our make-up date. So I took my son to karate, revised my blog, wrote my proposal speech, and came up with a plan to steal her phone. My hope was that she would be in the bathroom, still getting ready when I returned, and I would just grab her phone and turn it off. I wanted to do this because I had planned to post the blog, share it on Twitter, and create an Instagram post right before we left the house. I wanted to alert everyone about what was about to happen in the next hour. I knew that she would be somewhat frantic with worry about losing her ph...

Art Dealer Chic: The Proposal

Image
Chic /SHēk/ adjective elegantly and stylishly fashionable. Synonyms : stylish, elegant, sophisticated, dressy, smart So... This proposal was supposed to happen in 2016. However, I was inconsistent with my mission and did not get super serious until 2017. I knew I had to buy a ring, so I told myself save! Save! SAVE! I genuinely tried to but every time I had some cash stacked up, something would happen and I was forced to dip in my stash. So about two weeks before Thanksgiving I budgeted out my expenses for the year and notice a little surplus, and a coaching check came in. I knew exactly what I needed to do with the extra cash. I started researching the 4 C's of diamonds (Color, Clarity, Carat, Cut), if you have ever shopped for a diamond you understand. With my newly gained knowledge, I was ready to begin the process of looking for the perfect ring. I am an avid online shopper and I did not want anyone to see me in a jewelry shop, that would have be...

Mommy- You Are Appreciated.

Image
Dear Mama.. Damn that's Tupac... Hey Mama.. But that's Kanye... Mommy.. Yeah that's me... Mommy, It's Mother's Day and I just wanted to drop you a quick note to remind you that...  You are amazing. I mean like awesome.. you are the physical equivalent to the word wonderful, you are.. everything.  I know that most people would say the same about their mother, but you- you take the cake, you've won the championship belt for moms, you are the greatest! I could brag about you all day and even into the night. There are so many great things to talk about- your accomplishments, personal attributes, wisdom, and unconditional love. Nobody compares to you.  You are the definition of real love. The definition of no matter what. I thank God for sending me to you. Your strength and guidance have molded me into the man that I am today. And as I continue to grow, your advice past and present still provide the blueprint and encouragement necessary f...

My Seven Rules of Gift Giving Regardless of the Occasion

Give. Is "the thought" the only thing that counts? Hell nah. I believe that "the thought" is a part of that equation but not enough to solve it.  These are my opinions. But hopefully these can help you see things from a different perspective. 1. Gifts like tickets to a sporting event, concert, or etc. are not acceptable gifts, if it is also your plan to go with them , unless it's date night, Valentine's Day, Anniversary, or any other couple holiday. If you give those gifts out during any other time of the year like Christmas, birthday, Father's Day, Mother's Day- you should just give the person those tickets and let them decide what to do- who to take. Don't give a person a gift that's contingent on you participating too- thinking that you're automatically going to the event. I don't like individual day gifts that are dependent on me having to take the giver. Don't give them out for days/events used to salute that on...

The Message: Old Lovers & Friends...

Image
Real. I was scrolling down my timeline and the tweet that I posted above, hit me right in the chest and then in the head. I realized that I had somewhat of an issue with letting go. There were numerous individuals that I was still holding onto from past friendships, relationships, and even business situations. Because I valued them greatly at some point in my life, I felt the need to always hold them in the highest regard, to always leave that place there for them, to even continue to reach out when it seemed dead on their end. Maybe it's just the type of person I am, maybe it was a deep need for everyone to like me, I don't know. But it was something.  But after reading this tweet, I had an epiphany.. an awakening. I quickly realized and accepted the fact that everything that I was holding onto was over.. done.. finished. It was time to let go.. so I let go of it all. These burdens were immediately lifted from my heart and mind. I was free. I learned quickly, in t...

If I Should Die.. My Obituary...

Image
It's Been A Long Time.. A Long Time Coming.. But I Know.. A Change Gon' Come... If I should die… go ahead and cry. Be sad, mourn, be hurt. But only for a few moments at a time—no longer than that. I know this is a tough time for you, but I want you to rejoice and celebrate life. A life lived—mine. And a life living—yours. More than anything else, I was thankful for the opportunity to live.  To see, to breathe, to experience, to love, and everything else it encompasses. I loved and enjoyed life. Even through the tough times, I found joy in living. And I want you to live life to the fullest. Cliché, I admit. But do it!  The grave will be a home to us all, so before your time is up—LIVE! I’m grateful to have met some beautiful and special people in my lifetime. Thank you, Jaime, for holding me up during the hardest time in my life.  You were truly a blessing to me—in multiple ways. You made life beautiful… you made me better. I loved life so much, I made o...
